The discussion asks how Michel Foucault's ideas on power and discipline are embedded in the themes of masculinity, sexuality and class in August Strindberg's Miss Julie. Edda Manga is a researcher in the history of ideas, editor of the magazine Feminist Perspective and one of the founders of the Clandestino Institute. Her research moves at the intersection of colonial history, postcolonial power structures and modern political philosophy. She is currently writing about postcolonial racism based on Michel Foucault's theory of biopolitics.

Sven-Olov Wallenstein is Professor of Philosophy at Södertörn University. His research areas are aesthetic theory with emphasis on visual art and architecture in modernism, German idealism, phenomenology, critical theory and modern philosophies of desire, power and subjectivity. He has published several books and has been editor-in-chief of Site since 2001.
