With stylish humour and passionate dedication, Charlotte Engelkes continues to explore the wondrous world of Richard Wagner's opera. After successes such as Miss Very Wagner and Siegfried - the Very Wagner Hero Hour she now takes on Lohengrin - an opera about faith, finding yourself and asking the question you swore you'd never ask.

A bold interpretation of Wagner

With a diverse ensemble of six actors, Engelkes presents an epic work in the form of a dream play. A dance work about the identity and belonging of our time, performed with the utmost seriousness and playfulness. Lohengrin Dreams juggles faith and doubt, magic and reality - all wrapped up in Engelkes' marvellous and peculiar aesthetics and with newly written music, both classical and by the ever-present Wagner. And maybe he comes at last... Lohengrin, just like in the opera, sailing on a swan. But where does he come from? Maybe the question can bring us together instead of separating us?

The totality of female strength

Charlotte Engelkes and the ensemble juggle faith and doubt, dream and reality with the utmost seriousness and playfulness, to newly composed music by sound designer Willy Bopp based on Wagner's opera. Lohengrin and in collaboration with the Norrland Opera Symphony Orchestra. A total performance of female strength where not a single woman is sacrificed - and not a single man either.

Faith and doubt

Lohengrin Dreams does not tell the story of Wagner but conveys a more abstract story, recognising that faith and doubt live in us at the same time. There is a vulnerability in believing and doubting. It is movement and requires courage. Those who are only sure are usually standing still and comfortable. Therefore a dance work that touches with strong physical expressions in body and song.

The show will premiere on Norrlandsoperan 23 November 2019.
During the winter, the show goes on tour around the country via Dansnät Sweden
