In conjunction with Akram Khan's performance, a masterclass workshop will be organised where dancers Ching-Ying Chien and Joy Ritter will teach Akram Khan's movement techniques.

The workshop begins with a warm-up based on different elements of Akram Khan's work. Participants will explore their own creativity through tasks and exercises focusing on rhythm, speed, cycles and stillness. The workshop develops into learning material from the performance. Until the Lions.

NOTE The workshop is aimed at professional dancers.

The masterclass is organised in collaboration with Danscentrum Stockholm.

Ching-Ying Chien

Dancer Ching-Ying Chien (Taiwan) is a graduate of the National Taiwan University of Arts. She has been working with Akram Khan Company since 2013. Ching-Ying Chien has also worked with choreographers such as Fang-Yi Sheu, Kuan-Hsiang Liu and Horse Dance Theatre in Taiwan. She was awarded the Outstanding Female Performance (Modern) Award at the 2016 National Dance Awards.

 Joy Alpuerto Knight

Dancer Joy Alpuerto Ritter (USA/Germany) trained in dance at the Palucca Dance School in Dresden. Since then she has worked with Christoph Winkler, Anja Kozik, Heike Hennig, Milan Gervais and Constanza Macras, among others. In 2013 she started working with the Akram Khan Company. Joy Alpuerto Ritter has a great passion for hip-hop and has won several battles around Europe. In 2011 she danced in 'Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour' by Cirque du Soleil.
