viktor fröjd, marika peura, christine nypan - NOD

A dancer spends ten years, fifteen years, twenty years practising the movements. Setting the pace. Getting the technique right. Winning the competitions. Nourishing the body into a dance form: charming, fast, clean. Never tired, weak or crooked.

But what do you do if you think there is more than that to be gained from the art form you have trained in? What happens when a body trained in a social dance culture, a world of showcases and battles, starts using its art and movement language to ask other questions?

On stage we meet three street dancers in urgent need of challenging space and time, using their culture and language to investigate issues usually reserved for those working in contemporary dance and theatre. They take dance apart, shake up its components, stretch and massage them, arrange them in new forms and approach movement as if they were scientists investigating their own genome.

NOD wants to move the audience into a universe of seeing and experiencing movement from the inside out. With a presence in time and space, it seeks to create a focus in both spectators and dancers that allows them to get closer to the essence of the dance. Let it take time. See and see again. Get close. Let the danced process on stage not only be seen and heard - but felt.
