Marlene Freitas has taken the international dance scene and audiences by storm with her unbridled and visual dance works. Now she comes to Dansens Hus for the first time with the work Bacchae - prelude to a purge based on Euripides' classic tragedy. Dance, music and the mystery of Bacchus are the common thread when eight dancers and five trumpeters give us a Dadaist experience we will never forget!<\/p>\n
One critic has described \"Bacchae\" as a \"m\u00e9nage \u00e0 trois between expressionism, clown techniques and Chaplinian walks\". Freitas herself says her desire is to paint figures and worlds, rather than characters and stories. The show is a war between Apollo and Dionysus, logic and intuition, form and resolution. A parade of odd characters moves from grey everyday life to stages of total ecstasy. It is a journey into the deep nooks and crannies of the human psyche - all with a slightly absurd humorous twist.<\/p>\n
Marlene Monteiro Freitas was born and raised in Cape Verde and is currently based in Lisbon. She is considered one of the most talented choreographers of her generation.
