Dansens Hus is Sweden's largest performing arts centre for contemporary dance.

...mainly contemporary Swedish and international dance and related performing arts. Here you can see contemporary companies and choreographers who have characterised the artistic expression of recent decades and those who will do so in the future.

We are

Dansens Hus was inaugurated in 1991 and is located in Folkets Hus at Norra Bantorget in central Stockholm. Between January 2023 - June 2025, the entire building was renovated and during the renovation, Dansens Hus has been based at Elverket in Östermalm. On 2 October we celebrate the opening of our newly renovated theatre building at Norra Bantorget, but already in September we start the activities on our Studio Stage.

The organisation was established in 1989 as a foundation by the seven founders. The Royal Opera HouseThe National TheatreGothenburg OperaÖstgötateaternDance Centre, Dance Museum and Skåne Dance Theatre.

Dansens Hus is mainly financed by public funds and receives its operational funds through the budget bill. The other major contributor is the City of Stockholm.

Operations are conducted in Folkets Hus in Stockholm. There are three stages: Blackbox, Studioscen and Stora scen. The main stage in Dansens Hus has a total capacity of 782 people, including space for 8 wheelchairs with 8 companions. Blackbox has an audience capacity of 140 seats. The number of seats will remain the same after the renovation. Elverket has 226 seats.
