After almost three years in exile, Dansens Hus is finally moving back home - to the remodelled building at Norra Bantorget. In October, the stage will be reopened with a lively Homecoming Party that also marks the start of something new: an entire season, from autumn to spring, released in its entirety for the very first time.
The season includes 33 guest appearances from some of the most interesting voices in contemporary dance - from major international works to intimate, newly produced performances. Meanwhile, we're already kicking things off in September with the opening of our new studio stage for children and young people, a long-term initiative in which dance meets the perspectives of children and young people, where we present as many as eight guest performances during the season.
An important part of the programme is the international and national co-productions - works created in close dialogue between Dansens Hus, other co-producers and artists from Sweden and the world. Works that emerge over time, in interaction rather than just in guest performances.
In a time of turmoil and global shifts, it feels more important than ever to come together - to offer audiences and practitioners the very oasis of transnational performing arts that dance holds at its core. Dansens Hus is back - with new spaces, new voices and new movements.
- The reopening of Dansens Hus is more than a return - it is a new beginning. We do so with a programme that embraces different artistic expressions and formats, and with a clear ambition: to be a living space for contemporary dance and audiences in all its power, tenderness and complexity. In times of geopolitical unrest and shifts in public discourse, we want to safeguard the common space, where movement can become language and where boundaries are allowed to dissolve. We are particularly proud to present a full season, autumn and spring, to open our new stage for children and young people, and to partner with productions. This is how we build the future - together, says Johannes Öhman, Theatre Director at Dansens Hus.
Tickets will be released on Thursday 22 May at 12:00.
