A group of performers take to the stage for a rousing ritual of farewell, life and death, hope and resurrection.
Knock knock, who's there?
Together they push their limits and go through extremes: through sung lyrics, images, objects, oxygen and sweat, the group evokes our "human condition". - what is it to be human? They defy time over and over again in a packed repetition and give expression to a deep human need: the moment when we can leave thinking and become just a body.
Using the sports arena as a metaphor and a kind of concert, fully equipped with a cheerleader and commentary track, Miet Warlop invites us into ONE SONG to create community and celebration. The temporary becomes universal - and the personal is experienced as collective.
About the series Histoire(s) du Théâtre
- What is your history as a theatre maker?
That was the question posed to a select group of artists when they were invited to participate in the Belgian City Theatre NTGent's Histoire(s) du Théâtre series. ONE SONG is visual artist Miet Warlop's answer to the question - and she puts it into words as only she can, with a stirring ritual of farewell, life and death, hope and resurrection. Warlop is the fourth director to take up the challenge with a work that brings together the present, the past and the future in an inspiring way. Previous works in the series have been presented by Milo Rau, Faustin Linyekula and Angelica Liddell.
