With the performance Masculine they take on a politically charged topic: the male gaze's view of women as passive erotic objects - only there to fulfil male desires. It is also a celebration of liberation for women... and men.
The performance begins with a painting by Ingres from the 1860s depicting women in the Turkish bath. Seven female dancers appear in a variety of clichéd femininities, ranging from the mute posing images of the 19th century to the contemporary sexualised woman resembling artificial sex dolls.
- Masculine is that all people should recognise the patterns they are in and be able to break out of them if they want to. The concepts of masculine and feminine are changing, say Fattoumi and Lamoureux, perhaps best known for their controversial dance production about life behind the veil: Manta which was shown at Dansens Hus in 2012.
With theatre director Annelie Gardell & educator and politician Gudrun Schyman.
