With a stage design reminiscent of mountains, oceans, waves and glaciers, seven acrobats move to the sounds of newly written folk music performed live on stage. Whispering violins give way to drums and club beats. Haute couture catwalks are interspersed with risky balancing acts and breakneck flips. Bodies are thrown several metres into the air to portray the power and fragility of nature as circus art takes the form of stormy seas and sweeping treetops. A magnificent whole, a tribute to nature and a homage to the imperfect.
Below Zeros Circus Company In Praise of Shadows is a visual and physical storm described as wild, beautiful and unpredictable. A celebration of the shadows within us as well as around us.
The school performance on 12 November at 13:00 is for secondary school pupils and can be purchased at DANSiSTAN website.
About the company
Below Zero is a Swedish circus company based in Stockholm. Their artistic expression is based on the Nordic climate, where cold and vulnerability are contrasted with warmth, closeness and human encounters. The name Below Zero refers to the artists' ability to defy gravity, to fly almost like falling snowflakes. The company tours both nationally and internationally.
”In Praise of Shadows” is realised in collaboration with DANSiSTAN. Co-production with Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in collaboration with: Jonk! Scenkonst and Dansinitiativet.
Circus company Below Zero offers poetic warmth and breathtaking energy
In contemporary circus, it's easy to get caught up in the certainty of perfect performance. Here it gets really good when you instead create playful cracks in the perfection.
