Internationally acclaimed choreographer Hofesh Shechter and his company are back at Dansens Hus! Now with Theatre of Dreams, a work with 13 dancers and live music, balancing between dream and reality.
For almost ten years he has been shown at Dansens Hus. You may have seen (or missed):
Double Murder (2022), which was described as ”a fateful, charged and wild evening” while Contemporary Dance (2020) had an ”intense club feel”. Grand Final from the year before was: ”wayward, unpredictable and totally hyped.”
Now it's time to get dizzy again.
In Theatre of Dreams it dribbles with fears, hopes and desires - emotions that penetrate not only the dreaming mind but also our waking thoughts. It is a fascinating work that evokes chaotic emotions and surrealism but also a sense of clarity and reality.
And although the works are different, we recognise Shechter's characteristic cinematic composition, the interplay between poetry and reality and the fact that the music, which he composed, is performed live on stage.
He also works with partners from previous productions: Tom Visser for lighting design (Grand Finale, The Fix, Contemporary Dance 2:0, Wild Poetry and From England with Love) and Osnat Kelner for costumes (Contemporary Dance 2:0 and Wild Poetry).
In this full-length work, you are thrown headlong into the world of the imagination and the subconscious, which Shechter explores with his choreography. Or as he himself puts it:
”..if you enjoyed it, great for you. And if you hated it, I apologise on behalf of the universe.” *
The production premiered in Paris at the Théâtre de la Ville on 27 June 2024 and at Sadler's Wells in October 2024. It was followed by an extensive international tour in the Netherlands, Italy, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria and Germany.

Hofesh Shechter
Hofesh Shechter (b. 1975) started his career as a dancer in the Batsheva Dance Company (Israel). In the early 2000s he moved to England and since 2008 he has his own company, which today is one of the world's most renowned and acclaimed.
His first major work, the hit "Political Mother", premiered in 2010. Since then he has choreographed ”Sun” (2013), ”Barbarians” (2015) and ”Show” (2018). Several of his works have been shown at Dansens Hus.
Shechter has choreographed for other leading companies such as Batsheva Ensemble, Candoco Dance Company, Paris Opera Ballet, Gothenburg Opera and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
He has also worked in theatre, television and opera. In 2016, he was nominated for a Tony Award for choreographing the Broadway musical ”Fiddler on the Roof”. He often creates the music for his works himself - atmospheric compositions that accompany his explosively physical style. He previously played drums in the rock band The Human Beings.
A symbiosis of hip-hop, folk dance and nightclub vibes... Poetic and joyful, this Theatre of Dreams surprises from start to finish, and above all is full of emotion and energy! Invigorating
It's astonishingly beautiful, constantly inventive [...] a sense of discovery, of the capacity of the human spirit to revive, to fantasise and to dance. ****
It is an experience that burns with intensity and will never be the same twice.... a once- in-a-life-time encounter. *****
