In Fredrik Benke Rydmans interpretation of Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet he brings the classic into a world where we feed our need for love with AI. Since we live in an age where we avoid pain at all costs, nothing can be painful, we naturally want to minimise the risk of the pain that love can bring. You don't want to be dumped!
With an AI partner, nothing is difficult and all needs are met. But can true love exist if it is not painful? In a world where true love does not exist, hate can grow. Everyone is alone. War rages on all levels.
When Romeo & Juliet meet, something completely different arises, something they have never experienced, love that intoxicates. That hurts and that hurts.
But what if she's not real? What if the love isn't real? Then he doesn't want to live any more. His love for her makes him sick and he needs to know if she is real. Maybe the only way is to kill her?
We all know how the story ends, but do we know what love feels like?
Come to Dansens Hus and experience great love on the Main Stage!
