In a captivating and immersive work, choreographer Anna Öberg draws inspiration from couple dance as a phenomenon and pulse as a medium in the meeting between dancers Viktor Fröjd and Jon Bugge Mariussen, with backgrounds in house and folk dance respectively.

Central to Öberg's practice is a strong, improvised connection between music and movement, often manifested through live musicians on stage. In Landscapes, she has invited her long-time collaborator sound artist Elize Arvefjord, who uses the sounds generated by the dancers' movements to create a real-time sound design that enhances, distorts and adds to what the dancers do.

"I have long wanted to make a work for Viktor and Jon to allow their experiences and aesthetics to meet in shifting landscapes of craft and material. Two different dance practices, yet so similar. The inspiration for the work comes from my own background in couple dance, where listening to and negotiating with the other is always at stake."

About Anna Öberg

Anna Öberg is a dancer and choreographer active in the contemporary dance and performance scene. Her artistic practice is based on her background in Swedish folk dance, and she is interested in how the genre's physical and social processes can be communicated and understood through the elevated space offered by art, beyond the simplified stereotypes and external attributes with which the genre is often associated. The improvisational interplay between music and dance has always been central to Öberg's work and in recent years she has often returned to pulse as a driving force, tradering as a concept and the interactive, multi-sensory interaction between audience and work as part of the choreographic material.

In 2015, Öberg graduated with a master's degree in choreography from Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) as the first ever folk dancer. Her work has been presented at Riksteatern, Dalateatern, Scenkonst Sörmland, Moderna Dansteatern, Moderna Museet, Dansens Hus, Riksscenen Oslo, Dansehallerne Copenhagen, Brut Wien to name a few.
