Antero Hein & Tony Tran - Schismogenesis
Two men perform a ritual: a playful, animalistic choreography. Through repetitive movements and attacks, they create rhythmic beats. Their bodies merge, but then separate - their relationship becomes more and more complex. As light and shadow shape the space around them, the duet's physical attacks intensify, creating a visual, expressive and intimate world. SCHISMOGENESIS (power and powerlessness) is a collaboration between choreographers and dancers Tony Tran and Antero Hein.
Inspired by Gregory Bateson's theory of schismogenesis, the work explores different forms of physical partnership that influence and regulate the dynamics between two parties. Bateson uses the concept of schismogenesis to describe a process that leads to an escalating dynamic between groups or individuals. This process escalates the more the parties interact and cross each other's boundaries, and the audience witnesses their risk-taking and vulnerability.
