Two figures loom on top of a sparkling crystal structure. Like an echo from another time, the sound of chanting choirs and pulsating bodies can be heard in the darkness. In the Zirkonen performance, the audience is thrown into utopia and the dream of a perfect world - into dystopia and apocalypse - in an unbroken loop that begins in ash and ends in fire.
Fleberg's distinctive choreographic expression invites us into a sparkling universe where hypnotic movements, symmetry, togetherness and synchronicity are key elements. The soundtrack of the performance is performed live and is a musical odyssey where VAZ mixes influences from hip hop, afrobeat and art music in a genre they themselves have coined as Afro-Nordic futurism.
Zirkonen explores the human and non-human. It combines fantasy, artificial intelligence, ecocriticism and surrealism in a modern creation myth. What does it sound like when nature turns against man? In what BPM does an artificial heart beat and how does a memory move in a space free from gravity?
Zirkonen is a unique fusion of dance performance and concert created by the composer duo VAZ and choreographer Matilda Fleberg. In this newly written work, the two art forms come together in an epic creation story with four dancers and four musicians together with VAZ performing the music live on stage.

Matilda Fleberg
Matilda Fleberg is a Swedish choreographer characterised by her works where expressive individuals move in symbiosis and form a hypnotic whole of striking symmetry, detailed precision and dynamic rhythm that captivates, surprises and moves. Her unique and imaginative ability to create cohesion and chemistry between her dancers and make them move as a cohesive unit has led to great success both in Sweden and internationally. Her work has appeared in campaigns for Dior and Fashion Week, TV productions such as The Voice and Eurovision, and in music videos/tours/performances for a variety of artists. In 2021, she started her own dance company "Fleco Dance Company" with a global perspective as a starting point where she places great emphasis on cross-border collaborations with creators from art fields such as film/photography/music/set design. Her first project for the company, the short film "Fleco Project 001", received great impact internationally and was recognised by MTV Post, NY Feature & LAFeature.
VAZ
VAZ is a Swedish producer and artist duo consisting of sisters Cecilia Vaz and Jenny Vaz. Born and raised in Lilla Edet and based in Stockholm, the Swedish-Cape Verdean duo has achieved great success with their experimental beats and cross-genre compositions. The duo's electronic music combines hypnotic rhythms and choral singing with influences from Nordic melancholy and traditional Cape Verdean musical styles such as Morna and Batuqe. VAZ's debut album NECESSARY earned the duo dual Grammy nominations for "Producer of the Year", "Alternative Pop of the Year" (2018) and "Rhythm of the Year" at the Manifesto Gala (2017). In 2019, they were awarded the SKAP Producer Award for their contribution to Swedish music. Known for their dramatic live performances, the duo has played on international stages such as Island Airwaves, Reykjavik, Fabrica del Arté, Cuba, Fête De La Musique, Paris and Export Music Sweden in New York. In 2019, the duo received the prestigious assignment as conductor and house band in SVT's "På Spåret" programme. In VAZ's work, themes such as technology, gender, identity and power recur and dissolve. The siblings have founded several norm-breaking cultural projects, including the music collective Studio XX (2015-2017) and the art exhibition Projekt Panorama (2021). Together they run the record label Kinship Music and the sound studio Nordiska Musikbyrån.
