Drawing on rituals and celebrations both past and present, Gisèle Vienne's "Crowd" brings 15 young people on stage in a choreographed rave.
A devoted party crowd in a brown patch of earth, all in search of ecstasy. A collective euphoria of undulating bodies and fleeting feelings of love, intimacy, violence and intoxication.
Gisèle Vienne has always been fascinated by the dark corners of humanity. Of violence, manipulation and domination.
"Eroticism, death, violence... these are issues that affect us all. Issues that can disturb us - even jeopardise our entire society depending on how we choose to experience them."
Her background includes music, philosophy, dance and puppetry. As a choreographer, she has never shied away from the creepy and repulsive. She has explored the crimes of a serial killer, cast a young figure skater as a ghost astronaut and forced four characters into a menacing dark forest.
In "Crowd" she collaborates, as many times before, with electro-musician Peter Rehberg and with American author Dennis Cooper.
