Read TT's interview with Elias about his role in Protagonist

protagonist is a reflection on humanity. Songs for Revolution and Dance for Evolution tells a story of how people come together, take on and are given roles. All while instinct, resistance and compulsion bear witness to the struggle of each individual. In the endeavour to belong and in the common search for meaning and conviction, a community takes shape. protagonist is a depiction of togetherness, care and connection, of isolation, control and alienation. The inspiration comes from van Dinther's own experiences of club life in Berlin - where people leave the material world and have an experience together without knowing each other.

Jefta van Dinther's work is characterised by a clear physical approach and almost always stages an exploration of movement. The body is at the centre of the works, which interact with light, sound and different materials to be welded into a whole. The works emphasise the visible and the invisible, darkness and light, voice, affect and illusion. Protagonist is Jefta van Dinther's second work for the Cullberg Ballet.
