In acclaimed Damien Jalet's 'Kites', life and dance hang by a thread. An extremely physical reflection on the fleeting, fragile but powerful conditions of life. This is how Jalet himself describes his work:
"There has been so much wind here in Gothenburg lately. I see birds sailing high up in the air, surfing the air currents. Kites can be seen as a metaphor for life itself. A paper kite also dances on air currents, but the string can break and suddenly it crashes. At the same time, there is an urgent joy in the paper kite, a state we must preserve no matter what happens."
Acclaimed and award-winning choreographer and dancer Damien Jalet's work is characterised by deep collaborations between choreography, costume design, set design/artwork and music. He has had a long-standing partnership with choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, collaborated with artist Marina Abramovic, made a film with Paul Thomas Andersson, was artistic advisor to Madonna on her "Madame X" tour, was artistic director of the UK National Youth Dance Company, and has worked on many of Europe's top stages.
