Have you ever wondered what Viking Line's karaoke bar would look like at five in the morning if David Lynch was directing with Wednesday Addams? If not, maybe it's time to start thinking - because Mari Carrasco's latest work provides the answer to that riddle. Burn baby burn is her third work on the theme of groove and now it's time for a big grand finale.
With music as the pumping heart of the work, Carrasco challenges his dancers with subtle movements and step combinations. We are invited into a filmic landscape, a dream world where the dancer soon becomes one with the music.

You are pushing it, just relax, it will go by itself, don't put nothing in it unless you feel it - Nina Simone

Co-produced by Dansens Hus, Norrlandsoperan and Dansnät Sweden. Supported by the Swedish Arts Council and Region Stockholm. Will also tour with Dansnät Sweden in spring 2024.

Her piece stands in stark contrast to most of everything I've seen lately. I might just cancel other plans this weekend to see it again.

Carrasco and the dancers convey something of their own.

The rhythm creates a flow, an infectious groove as if they were moving in a trance, almost by force.

"Burn baby burn" is the shimmering final instalment of Mari Carrasco's groove trilogy.

It combines 60s-style strings with pure drum rhythms and bass lines that are felt throughout the body.
