"Take the floor" is a short format where dancers can try choreographing, try out ideas or show a short performance.
We invite you to a rhythmic and deep house music experience with AxAKavAT and Chiara "Ce re s" Gilioli picking through his inner flora of different women and what it means to end the notion of "I am, so what am I not?".
About the choreographer
AxAKavAT: "Have the stomach for it"
Choreography: Binita Kharel & Fredrika Burvall
In: Binita Kharel, Fredrika Burvall, Abisola Akinade & Rebecca Livaniou
Video projection: Stina Théren
What is holding you back? "Have the guts" explores why we do not dare to create what we want, develop in what we desire or fulfil our dreams. The piece is a work in progress where we shape and test the dancers' boundaries towards letting go of resistance and strengthening courage.
AxAKavAT aims to create an environment where the group encourages individuals to emerge and flourish. On stage, the group presents a 15-minute extract where AxAKavAT is challenged to dare through projections, voice and movement.
AxAKavAT consists of:
Binita Kharel, who previous Dansens Hus visitors will recognise from the production FATTA (2015) and "Fill me in (2017) With "Ha mage till" Binita makes her first work as artistic director.
Fredrika Burvall, belongs to the newly founded crew Cipha64 based in Stockholm. She teaches and organises workshops/clubs to contribute to the dance scene at home and has also performed in various productions such as "Art Beyond Conventional Means" by Joel Gläfke,
Rebecca Livaniou
She is a Stockholm-based dancer active in the Swedish and international battle scene. She has trained at Åsa Folkhögskola and at Dans och Cirkushögskolan. Rebecca has participated in Fatta dans (2015), Unvolution (2018), The Hiphop Symphony (2018-2019) and most recently as choreographer and dancer in Contemplation (2019).
Abisola Akinade
Abisola Akinade is based in Manchester, UK. She has over 15 years of experience in various styles, but more recently she has focused on house dance. Abisola is one of the members of the newly formed seven-person house collective Tantara.
Chiara "Ce re s" Gilioli: "All That I Am"
Choreography, set design, costumes, lighting: Chiara "Ce re s" Gilioli
In: Chiara "Ce re s" Gilioli.
I am, so I am not...? This is the phrase we often use to define ourselves - and it keeps us stuck in a structure that tries to control what cannot be labelled.
We believe that labels help us understand the essence of things, but what happens, for example, when we try to define a woman by using a label? Sexy, strong, pragmatic, aggressive, unstable, calm...?
After going through a big change in my life, I dug deeper and deeper into myself and explored different ways of moving - letting them blossom in their own way, just as they wanted.
I found a whole set of women in there, women who had been wiped out over the years by too many 'I am, so I am not'. I want to erase the notions of "being a woman". Let all these different women in me evolve. Give them the chance to merge to show who I am. For all this, I am.
The music and beat is a mix of hip-hop and electronic sounds, with a fragile vibe alternating with powerful drums.
