Many species are facing an uncertain future. Although parts of humanity often think they are at the centre of the stage, the real drama takes place behind the scenes: among the gnats and bugs, the chatter and sounds, and in the tactile relationships of dance.
Stina Nybergs work, The Dawn Chorus, is based on birds dying, but also on the bird as a metaphor for a possible new future.
The bird has an obvious place in the history of dance and has taken centre stage in numerous works. The Dawn Chorus will draw on some of these historic bird dances while taking the liberty of imagining the world from a different perspective. The process-oriented development of the work is an exercise in noticing other details and in listening: to small birds, small stories and small movements. An opportunity to change one's perspective on life with the bird as a companion.
In The Dawn Chorus we dream of mile-long calls, polyamorous mating dances and a darkness in which to sing together.
Stina Nyberg
Stina comes from Örnsköldsvik but now lives in Stockholm. Her background as a dancer and choreographer is solid both nationally and internationally. Among other things, she choreographed the music group The Knife's show Shaking the Habitual, which toured extensively in the US and Europe in 2012-2014. On behalf of the Swedish Arts Council, Stina developed a choreographed city walk based on the dog's perspective (2020). In addition, Stina has choreographed Tones & Bones for the Cullberg Ballet, the work Thunderstruck (2017), The woman who lit the world (2014), and more. Stina's work is often characterised by an avant-garde and popular tone where the small is often the big and vice versa.
