Robin Jonsson has been creating and touring works since finishing his studies at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels in 2008.
Several of the works he created during his studies continued to tour for several years such as "Super Conflict" and "I Believe I Can see the future". These works together with Simulations was based on an extremely accurate copying and then simulation of virtual characters from video games, animation and similar media.
Later, he worked in a similar way with Zombies and pure acting in The Hollows 1 and 2the latter premiered here at Dansens Hus, and the former at MDT.
A common denominator in all of Robin's works is the deconstruction of how human bodies are represented artificially, in the form of animation, puppets or robots. - My interest focuses on the construction and representation of these virtual bodies, their behaviours, their movement qualities, physics and physiology. For example, how movements and the relationship to gravity are simulated or how they have been created to appear natural in their movement schemes.
For some years now, Robin has been focusing her work on human-shaped robots and what they can bring to the performing arts field in the performances "The most human" and now the current "Other than human" which will premiere at Dansens Hus in April 2020.

Try robotic yoga from home
Now you can try robot yoga with Alex the robot and Robin the human from home. Roll out a yoga mat if you have one, or grab something else that's a bit soft. Start our robot yoga on any screen (TV, tablet or mobile phone).Alex and Robin will lead us through some simple and some more challenging yoga exercises. The session takes about 7 minutes and is suitable for everyone. If there is any exercise that feels too challenging, you can always lie down and rest through that particular exercise.
Alex the robot dancer
Robin Jonsson shares his work with Alex for the show 'The most human'. The programming, the rehearsals and the human relationship.
The most human (2018)
A dance work that explores what is human, presence and authenticity. The work reflects the radical transformation of society, especially in service professions, industry and health care, where robots are taking over people's jobs but also largely collaborating with humans. In The most human, a robot replaces a human dancer and collaborates with another. The robot is humanoid, intelligent and autonomous and influences the process and final outcome of the work.
Alex's heart dance
In the 'Alex's Heart Dance' project, primary and secondary school classes will come up with movements for Alex, who will then create a choreography from the students' material. They can also request music and send digital dances to Alex through filmed instructions. All this is done online. The project aims to encourage dance and movement in new ways with a focus on participation and self-creation. School pupils are often particularly encouraged when a robot asks them to dance and feel a sense of pride in the dance they have created themselves.
Simulations (2010)
Using all kinds of human simulations, from puppets to games to robots, the work philosophises about what it means to be human in a digital world.
