Virpi Pahkinen has been compared to an oracle, a goddess and a shaman. As with Pahkinen's previous works, he promises to Black Rainbow mysticism and ritual precision. On a stage framed by mobile fabric sculptures, five dancers, including Virpi herself, embody a journey into the body - with Pahkinen's unmistakable language of movement.
The dancers who share the stage with Virpi come from a variety of disciplines and experiences; a breathtakingly fast locking master meets a ballerina on pointe and a yogi describes a barefoot meditation in the air. In interaction with Jonas Sjöblom hypnotic music, Black Rainbow becomes both concrete and enigmatic.
Virpi Pahkinen is the dance mystic who has undoubtedly created her own universe.
Her dance is described as majestic, magical and mysterious. Usually a globetrotter who performs on the world stage, this winter she takes to the roads of Sweden. The world premiere takes place here at Dansens Hus in November, and then the performance goes on tour in the country via Dansnät Sweden in the spring of 2021.
Her work is characterised by an intense stage presence and can be perceived as almost sacred. With her sculptural idiom and poetic mantra, she consolidates her position as one of Sweden's most beloved choreographers - definitely the most pithy and headstrong.
