Welcome to the Stockholm Dance Film Festival 2019! Celebrating five years as a dance film festival, we proudly present our fifth annual programme. In this year's festival we visit people, their lives and cultures. We explore what dance can mean and how dance moves in our lives. The films plunge us into other realities, sometimes speculative, sometimes actual, and we reflect on dance and film united around the phenomenon that is our society.

Welcome,

18.00-19.20 FILM SCREENING: Section I, small stage <>

The festival begins with four essential dance films. The films explore dance in relation to the surrounding landscape and environment. Some are based on an abstract theme, others develop alternative narratives.

Linn, Lydia Touliatou [GRC/DNK] - 03:19
the time it takes, Simon Fildes / Katrina McPherson [GBR] - 11:00
Traces, Nicola Hepp [SWE/NLD] - 03:33
Blind Dancer, Maria Lloyd [NOR/BEL] - 21:32 (English - no text)

break 10 min

We continue with films that balance between the periphery and centre of dance cinema. The body is present through its physical absence or through a digital and heightened reality. The environment is at the centre of the films and provides space for the choreography of the (disappeared) body.

On & On, Akihiko Taniguchi [JPN] - 05:29
Interstice, Andrew Thomas Huang [USA] - 10:00
Good Tiding, Sebastiano Luca Insinga [ITL] - 15:00

19.00-20.00 Multiplex Realities, main stage

19.45-20.50 FILM SCREENING: Section II, small stage <>

These four films relate to each other through their slowness and existential questions. Questions are asked from the dance and its memories. The dissolution of time reminds us of the fragility of humanity.

Thing that start slowly, Anna Macdonald [USA] - 09:36
∞, Denislav Kanev [AUS/DEU] - 03:20
33 Questions, Anton Valdbauer [SWE/ESP] - 09:33
Upp till dans, Sara Lindström [SWE] - 08:53

break 10 min

With visual storytelling, we are immersed in listening, seeing and feeling. We see a personal and playful exploration of surfaces and small spaces. The section culminates with disturbing tension.

Flashing wire, Elinor Tollerz Bratteby [SWE] - 03:37
Cygnus, Cara Hagan / Robert Uehlin [USA] - 06:14
Sisters, Daphne Lucker / Rosita Wolkers [NLD] - 15:00

21.00-22.00 FILM SCREENING: Section III, small stage <>

In this section, dance visits people's lives, heritage and cultures. We see knowledge of how dance can be passed down through generations, the dance of labour in the middle of Swedish nature and dance that unites families.

He loves my eyes, Enxhi Rista [DEU/ROU] - 22:51 (English - no text)
Blånagla, Helena Byström / Jenny Vinterqvist / Anna Källblad [SWE] - 09:52

15.00-16.15 FILM SCREENING: Section IV, small stage <>

10 min break

Here we follow the traces left by people and the history created in the past and present. Bodies are formed, moved, disappeared and punished. The state is present through its lack of protection and interest. People move in isolation and in masses.

In a moderated discussion, David Bloom will talk about his experience as a filmmaker and choreographer focusing on the representation of the body and its connection to voyeurism and bodily desires.

                                                                                                             break 15 min

In this final part of the festival, we are invited to reflect on what it means to watch and be watched. Who gets to watch whom and who decides what to watch. These four films deal with issues of institutional and state objectification.
