Multi-talented Greek artist Dimitris Papaioannou got his international break when he created the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2004 Athens Olympics. Whether working in large stadiums, old factories or prestigious dance stages, Mr Papaioannou continues to create works that captivate audiences around the world.
Dimitris Papaioannou started his career as an artist and his works can be seen as living still lifes, always with a strong visual expression. His imagery is reminiscent of a fun house, with dreamlike absurd scenes filled with art historical references and optical illusions. Bodies become raw materials - transforming into a hybrid between man and substance.
The Great Tamer was co-produced by Dansens hus and others and premiered in Athens on 24 May.
