Reality is round brings us together in the grandiose and irrational, in the extremes of body and voice. The performance is based on young children's unique ability for devoted play and undisguised interest in their surroundings. With movement, light, sound and form, we explore the creation of contact and how we can meet beyond language. We bounce and rest in an echo, sound and roll over a dark sea. The performance is based on the idea that language can never capture reality as it is, because concepts are angular while reality is round. 

Reality is round is a participatory dance performance for children aged 1-2 and their adults. Two dancers and a musician invite you into an imaginative space that arouses curiosity and makes room for encounters between all those who participate in the work. The audience enters the room and the actors follow, support and develop. By listening carefully to what is happening in the room, no two performances are the same.

About Johansson's Geraniums and dancing

Johansson's geraniums and dance (JPOD), consisting of Annica Styrke and Karin Wiklund, have over 15 years of experience in artistic and dance pedagogical work for and with children and young people. They are interested in engaging the audience physically in their works, which in different ways address issues of the body in relation to society and the individual's participation in it. JPOD explores the intersections between, and pushes the boundaries of, what performing arts can be, who is invited to participate in it, where it can take place and what it can do. JPOD is an organisation with a wide range of ongoing projects and productions. They continuously create new works, tour existing works extensively and carry out development projects and promotional work related to participation and young people's right to culture.

JPOD has, among other things, created the performance Koreografin (2016), which has been performed over 700 times both nationally and internationally and which was selected for Bibu 2018 as well as Ice hot, Swedish Dance at Tanzmesse and Young Swedstage 2022. In relation to the performance, the method-developing cultural projects "Koreografin - interactivity, language and interaction" and "Koreografin på minoritetsspårk" were run for three years, where the performance was translated into 15 languages. The project also published the book "Anthology for a multilingual performing arts" (ed. Haglund, Styrke & Wiklund 2020) - a collection of newly written texts on multilingualism, translation, power, identity and participatory performing arts. Johansson's Pelargoniums and Dance were the 2021 performing arts residencies at Södertörn University. In 2022-2023, a major project will be carried out together with Uppsala City Theatre and 11 libraries around Sweden. In the project, the audio work "I'm thinking of you" has been created and installed in all partner libraries, where it will be available for 5 years. Jag tänker på dig has been selected for this year's Bibu.
