Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite danced with the Frankfurt Ballet under William Forsythe and with Ballet British Columbia. The latter company also saw her debut as a choreographer in 1990.
Since then, she has created over 50 works for companies such as the Paris Opera Ballet, The Royal Ballet in London, Nederlands Dans Theater, the Cullberg Ballet, the Frankfurt Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal (where she was house choreographer from 2001 to 2004) and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet. Crystal Pite is associated with Nederlands Dans Theater, Sadler's Wells in London and the National Arts Centre in Canada.
In 2002, Crystal Pite formed its own company, Kidd Pivot, in Vancouver. The company tours nationally and internationally with works such as Dark matters and Lost action as well as acclaimed dismaycreated with Jonathon Young and performed by Kidd Pivot and Electric Company Theatre. Earlier this year, Betroffenheit was named by the prestigious British newspaper The Guardian as "The best dance performance of the 2010s".
