The cypher is breaking's most sacred ritual. While competitions and shows are conducted with an audience on a lit stage, the cypher happens outside the spotlight, with only the participants present. Not everyone understands it, not everyone is allowed in. As Skill Bill Zoo opens the doors to the holy of holies, visitors can sneak right up to the stage, to the edge of the circle.
The work consists of two parts, the latter being a dialogue where the dancers invite the audience to talk about the themes that EN CYPHER raises.
"A CYPHER" explores the different sides of the cypher; what we do to it, and what it does to us. How it makes us let go. But also how within its sphere alternative norms are created that limit us.
