In 2020, Johannes Öhman embraced a new role as the artistic director and CEO of Dansens Hus in Stockholm – Sweden’s largest stage for international and national guest companies. Following a four-year renovation of the main venue, the organization is set to return in 2025, featuring not only guest performances but also new formats like ateliers, youth productions, and studios supporting the Swedish free scene on both regional and national levels.

As the artistic director of Staatsballett Berlin from (2018–2020), he successfully transformed Germany’s largest ballet company into a hub of innovation, earning the title of Company of the Year by the dance magazine tanz.

During his tenure as the Artistic Director of The Royal Swedish Ballet (2011-2017) Öhman elevated the company’s international presence, performing at prestigious venues like L’Opéra de Paris and the Kennedy Center. 

His role as Artistic Director (2007–2011) at Göteborgsoperans Danskompani marked a groundbreaking shift, steering the company from a ballet-focused entity to a contemporary dance powerhouse.

Johannes Öhman, joined The Royal Swedish Ballet in 1987 and reached the rank of 1st soloist by 1991 after honing his skills at the Royal Swedish Ballet School. Beyond his stage contributions, Öhman has shared his expertise as a respected teacher as well as expert and jury member in various panels, dance platforms and competitions.
